Pad Care
Your un-coated, mild steel Greenspad reacts like all mild steel does when exposed to sweat — it changes color. However, not all pads may do this. It depends on the user and how much sweat their hand produces when resting on the pad. If you don’t like the painted finish, the best defense against oxidation is wiping the pad down after you use it with a light teflon or silicone lubricant. Otherwise, take no chances and just get the gunkote black or clear finish.
If you perceive a rough spot, or an area that you’d like more texture on with an un-coated pad, get a Scotchbrite pad and have at it. Don’t be afraid to tinker with them.
The picture to the left shows an average amount of discoloration on an un-coated steel pad after a few weeks of use.
By the middle of November, 2010 we will be offering anodized pads in a few different colors as well as stainless steel in December in time for the Holidays. Watch our news page for more information on that.
